With over a century and a half of winemaking experience, the House of Seppelt is extremely proud of its heritage and rich tradition. The historic Seppelt winery, located in Great Western is famous for its labyrinth of underground tunnels, called “The Drives”, where sparkling wines have been bottle aged over the years, since 1868.

Located in Western Victoria, the “Great Western” region embraces the “Grampians” and “Avoca” grape-growing areas.  The winery was purchased by Benno Seppelt is 1918, from his friend, Hans Irvine. From that time, Benno Seppelt really put Great Western on the map for it’s magnificent sparkling wines and exceptional table wines, particularly Shiraz. The cellar door building is beautifully nestled in the historic Seppelt winery, set the backdrop spectacular surrounding vineyards. A visit to Seppelt Great Western cellar door will reward you with a memorable wine tasting experience and friendly hospitality – Seppelt style.

GUIDED DAY TOURS
A tour of the famous "Drives" and historic "Shaft House" (dating back to 1865) is thoroughly recommended. "The Drives" beneath the winery are the legacy of the pioneering Australian gold-miners.

Excavated in the 1800's from de-composed granite, this 3 km underground labyrinth of tunnels houses an impressive collection of wines for the House of Seppelt. It is here in the vaults beneath the winery that our award winning sparkling wines rest and develop. Included in the tour is the opportunity to taste up to 20 Seppelt wines.

Tour Times
Monday to Saturday; 11am and 2pm daily. Bookings are preferred. Sunday only during Victorian School Holidays and Public Holiday Weekends

Tour Prices
$15 per Adult, $8 per child (5yrs+), $35 per Family and $12 per Senior.

UNDERGROUND DRIVE TOURS AT NIGHT
We are also conducting the underground "Drives" tour on the last Saturday evening of every month (or by appointment for 10 or more). This exclusive experience will feature meeting in the cemetary, directly behind the winery to meet the forefathers of Seppelt Great Western. Visit Joseph Best’s cottage for pre-tour drinks before taking an eerie tour of the underground cellars by candlelight.

$25 per adult and $15 per child (5yrs+). Pre-paid bookings are essential and can be made via the Cellar Door at: 03 5361 2239.

VENUES & CATERING
Vine Lodge is a historic homestead situated on the winery grounds. This unique venue provides an alternative for boardroom meetings and conferences. The Lodge accommodates 20 pax in boardroom style with a separate dining room that can cater for buffet lunches and morning/afternoon teas. BBQ's and lunches can be arranged in the court yard or garden with formal dining available in the ballroom.

The grounds are beautiful and spacious, with BBQ and picnic facilities.

The Drives Cafe is now open with cheese platters and coffee. Special menus available on public holiday weekends.
