Ever
wondered what it would be like to bathe in Champagne? Dame Nellie Melba did.
In fact she wondered aloud to her neighbour, Seppelt winemaker, Hans Irvine.
Hans duly instructed his cellar hands to put a bath in the winery fill it
with fizz and assemble a temporary screen.
152
was the number of bottles it took to fill the bath and by all reports the Dame
enjoyed the experience, though she did complain that it was a little cold.
A
bath full of bubbly remained and the cellar hands decided in their wisdom, to
bottle it. They set to work and soon had the bath in bottles. However despite
several recounts a strange fact remained - 152 bottles of Seppelt sparkling
wine were poured into the bath and 153 bottles came out!
